Materials management
section_rfid_test.jpg

Materials Management is the branch of logistics that deals with the tangible components of a supply chain. Specifically, this covers the control of assets in rental, the control and management of sustainable packing, maintenance of technical installations, acquisition of spare parts and replacements, quality control of purchasing and ordering such parts, and the standards involved in ordering, shipping, and warehousing the said parts.

Areas of Concentration

Asset Rentals
It is obvious that ownership of assets and equipment is not always a viable option any longer, especially if a company wishes to stay current with the latest technology which can reduce operating costs in the long run. Investing in technology, equipment and assets can be very expensive. Firstly there is the cash payment that has to be made (initial price of the hardware and software). Then there is the cost of the warranties, maintenance and the upgrades. At the end of the life of the asset there are other costs and overheads linked with removing & disposing of the obsolete assets and introducing the new ones. There are also costs such as downtime that occurs as technology ages and businesses do not upgrade to the latest technology in time. Renting your equipment, hardware and software is the best solution.

Dialoc ID offers RFID readers and tags to follow the material flow and enables the supplier and the user insights to where and when items come available. Check out the product pages on this section to find out what Dialoc ID can do for you.

Controlling Sustainable Packaging
Recent news makes it clear; there is need for food processing traceability and a growing demand by the public and government to make this happen. As product wholesomeness significantly impacts the population’s health, the drive to full accounting through traceability grows within the industry.

The compatibility of RFID technology with reusable containers brings substantial added benefits to the already proven economic and environmental advantages of reusable packaging systems.  By combining RFID technology with reusable containers, industries gain the ability to better track their product and their containers as they move through the supply chain. This will result in a stronger return on investment on the containers, as well as provide opportunities for improved supply chain management through analysis of the data provided. Dialoc ID offers a scale of RFID readers and- tags to enable easy data collection. Check out this section.

Maintenance and Inspections of Technical Installations
RFID technology is the solution to facility management processes. Fire shutters, fire doors, smoke detectors, air conditioners, heating systems and much more other equipment which requires regular maintenance, inspections and repair are subject items. To better plan, control, and document the work of service personnel an RFID solution and a mobile application for technicians could be integrated with existing asset management systems. Benefits of the solution include reduced search times for service technicians when locating and identifying the objects, efficiency gains in maintenance documentation and significant improvements of process quality.

Managing Spare Parts and Quality Control
RFID is helping to improve the safety records of airlines. RFID is used to support the process of maintaining and repairing aircraft parts. Each tagged part will carry key information about its ownership and maintenance history. This will help speed up aircraft repairs – reducing delays– and will improve the overall safety of aircraft.

Carmakers are taking similar steps to improve the safety of their vehicles. Key safety components such as brakes and seats can be tagged so that the car manufacturer can trace faulty goods back to the supplier and then demand repairs or replacements. It is possible to link RFID tags containing a unique identification number, such as the Electronic Product Code (EPC), to critical information, e.g. date of manufacture, materials used and origin of components.

Dialoc ID offers RFID equipment and –tags to help you manage your spare parts. Find out more about our products in this website section.

Tracking  Medical Equipment and Medicines
Even sophisticated healthcare equipment can be tagged with RFID to ensure it is functioning properly and to track maintenance and inspection information.

When medical devices have to be recalled, it is often difficult for hospitals to identify which devices of the millions in circulation are faulty, because items may look nearly identical but have minor changes in features. In addition, it’s very difficult to track the make and model number of medical devices that have already been used in surgery.

Cancer ranks the top cases of lethal diseases in many developed countries. One of the ways to cure cancer is through chemotherapy drugs, which are expensive and dangerous medication. If this medication is administered mistakenly to the wrong the patient, it could result in death or seriously harmful condition. To ensure the safety of the patient, it is required that hospital staff members use the medication carefully and properly. Using RFID to track vials of expensive chemotherapy ensures better management of the process of mixing the medication with infusion solution and therefore guarantees the safety of the cancer patient.

Statistics on accidental deaths caused by medical mistakes are difficult to be understood. In the US, studies have shown that 100,000 people die each year from mistakes made in administering prescription drugs.

Dialoc ID has developed RFID readers and- tags for the equipment and medicines so that product information, such as recepy, patient ID’s and expiration dates, can be tracked accurately.
